CAR practical guide update

The revised Controlled Activities Regulations “A practical guide” incorporates recent changes made by CAR Amendment Regulations 2013.

The main changes to the regulations are:-

  • Diffuse pollution GBRs (18, 19, 20 and 23); storage and application of fertiliser, the positioning of livestock feeders, the no cultivation zone and the storage, handling, preparation and application of pesticides. Specifically GBR 20 clarifies that the 2m no cultivation zone should be measured from the top of the bank of the watercourse.
  • Engineering GBRs, 5, 6 and 13; to the protection of the banks of a watercourse during works, construction and maintenance of surface water outfalls, and removal of sediment within 5m of an outfall or inlet where the reference of risk to flooding has been removed and the numeric specification on where sediment can be returned is no longer stipulated.
