ScottishLand& Estates gives evidence on Post Legislative Scrutiny

ScottishLand& Estates has given evidence to the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee of the Scottish Parliament which is undertaking an inquiry into Post Legislative Scrutiny. One of the important roles performed by Scottish Land & Estates on behalf of members is scrutiny of legislation so this was an opportunity to help shape how laws may be scrutinised in future. Giving evidence on behalf of the organisation, Jackie McCreery emphasised the need for adequate time for scrutiny before a Bill becomes an Act which may reduce the need for extra resource to be allocated to fixing problems after the Act has been passed.  Scottish Land & Estates has suggested a dedicated parliamentary committee to oversee post legislative scrutiny and recommended that the parliament focuses on an in-depth review of one or two areas of law per year rather than attempting to look at every piece of legislation passed by the Parliament.
