Opportunities to engage with

Dear HHAS /SL&E, SGS  member.

As the primary creators of activities/attractions and businesses in the countryside we have felt that you were not represented fully on the Visit Scotland website.  The new website is aiming to present a more complete picture of all we have to offer in Scotland.  To this end we have been lobbying Visit Scotland for the past two years to present a much wider picture of what is available for the visitor to Scotland.

We have at last secured free listing for your attraction/activity/or business on the new VS website.  Providing you are a member of one of the industry groups, e.g., HHAS, SL&E and SGS you will get a free listing and there is no requirement to be graded.

Please down load and fill up the form and return it to VS.  This is the first step.  Once you are verified as a member of the industry group you will be sent a simple entry form for your business where you can detail all that you are offering and add pictures.

A high profile for all the very diverse opportunities we have to offer in Rural Scotland is the first step to getting the visitors to explore Scotland more extensively, stay longer, thus spending more in the Rural areas.

From Farm shops, to the Dark Skies Observatory, from Mountain Bikes to learning how to make ice cream, from beautiful gardens to Green burials, from living History to wildlife, we have so much to offer.

Please take the time to add your contribution even if it is just a good walk  in your area, or on your farm.

It is up to us to push on this Open Door and share all that we have that makes Scotland such a diverse, interesting and stimulating place to visit.  Rural Tourism is as yet only scratching at the potential market. It is up to us to make the world aware of what we do and what we have to offer.

With best wishes,

Sarah Troughton, Sarah Jane Laing and Caroline Borwick

Dear Colleague,

We are about to begin our annual partnership engagement programme, inviting tourism businesses across Scotland to feature in a variety of marketing and promotional campaigns for 2013/2014.  We would appreciate it if you could share this information with your members to make them aware of the opportunity that they have to publicise and grow their business.

The eyes of the world will be on Scotland in the coming year, with Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup and Homecoming Scotland all taking place, it’s a great opportunity for tourism businesses to promote themselves to a wide range of potential customers from the UK and overseas. This opportunity is, of course, not only for tourism businesses, but all impacted upon by the visitor economy, such as retail - many of whom are members of your organisation/group.

I wanted to let you know about specific changes we are making to the way businesses will be able to promote themselves on our website,, and to enlist your support in promoting the opportunities to members of your organisation.

Our family of websites attracts an audience of around 14.5 million visitors per year. In order to provide the best possible experience for visitors, and improve the quality of content on, we want to encourage increased participation from all businesses not just those in the tourism sector. We are therefore offering businesses who are a member of a recognised Quality Assured scheme or members of a destination organisation or industry group like yours, a FREE LISTING on for 2013/2014 when they complete the required registration form. We will be happy to work with you to ensure your members can supply information to VisitScotland in the most efficient manner.

I trust that you, and your members, will find such an offer attractive and one that could also be used by you to be promoted as an additional benefit of being a member of your organisation. I would be delighted if you could share this information with members that may benefit from this opportunity.

Any of your members who already work with VisitScotland will be contacted directly in the coming weeks.

If they are not current VisitScotland customers, they must sign up by completing a simple form and returning it to us. Details can be found here:  VisitScotland will then process forms, provide login details and a guide on how to get started as quickly as possible. To help us verify that any new customers are members of your organisation and qualify for a free listing, we may be in touch with you to confirm this and hope you will be able to assist us in this matter.

If you have any queries regarding the above offer please contact Brendan Moriarty - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it who is coordinating this activity and who will be happy to respond to any enquiries.

Yours sincerely,
