Taxman targets soft-fruit sector

HMRC Crackdown on operations employing foreign workers
Farm businesses employing foreign workers are facing a clampdown by the taxman.

Don Gordon, the Inverurie-based director of tax investigations with chartered accountants Johnston Carmichael, said staff from HM Revenue and Customs were checking an increasing number of agricultural operations. The checks, so far, appear focused on soft-fruit growers who have traditionally hired large numbers of European staff to pick and pack raspberries and strawberries.  To read more click here.
