Members visit to Inverie on Knoydart

16 members and guests attended a walk and talk visit to Inverie on Knoydart on 10 May.  Guests included Scottish Government staff from both Housing and Environment departments and Scotland’s senior Ornithologist Roy Dennis MBE as we gathered on a damp Mallaig pier for the short ferry journey.

At Inverie we were met by Knoydart Foundation (KF) Development Manager, Angela Williams and her team who invited us to join them in the village hall for a welcome cup of tea and cake still warm from the Rayburn.

After introductions, Angela gave a short presentation on the history and current projects of KF and afterwards members participated in an animated discussion on issues such as deer management, housing, forestry and fire services before heading out with staff to visit some of their projects before repairing to the Old Forge Inn for lunch.

Despite the deteriorating West Highland weather, we had a memorable visit to Scotland’s most remote peninsula made all the better by the warm welcome of our senior community-owned estate members.
