Successful Succession Event in London

Scottish Land & Estates hosted a very successful, and the last in the series, of the 'Keeping it in the Family' succession events at CLA headquarters in London on 23 April with sponsors Anderson Strathern and Johnston Carmichael. The event was chaired by Colin Henderson of Anderson Strathern, with about 30 members in attendance.

The event benefited from the welcome and introduction by Luke Borwick bringing a fresh update on the timetable of the land reform review group. Carole Tomlinson and Anne Chapman of Anderson Strathern gave a run through on issues facing the family, family dynamics and legal structures. Andrew Shepherd from Johnston Carmichael discussed business structures and how to pass on the business successfully. Questions led to discussions about the difference between English and Scots law on succession and Scottish legal rights, powers of attorney and land ownership. Luke Borwick concluded with a summary on the issues facing Scottish landowners in the event of both a no or yes vote. There were further interesting discussions following the event over the buffet.
