Landowners Back Calls For Good Name of Scotland's Meat To Be Protected

“We would echo the view expressed by the Scottish Government, Quality Meat Scotland and the NFUS that a failure to protect the integrity of meat produce cannot be tolerated.  We welcome the government’s promise to engage with the European Commission on this issue to ensure the horsemeat contamination scandal can never be repeated.

“The unfortunate chain of events that have led to this industry crisis demonstrate the strong need to ensure strict provenance checks are in place.   Consumers should be assured of the high standards demanded of Scottish food produce and we would encourage them to continue supporting the Scotch quality label.   We are confident that Scotland’s farmers and the Scotch Beef brand have the integrity to measure up to the highest of quality standards which consumers rightly demand”.
