CAP reform: EID taken out of cross compliance

In the second day of voting in the European Parliament Agriculture Committee, which saw votes on the so-called ‘horizontal regulation’ which sets the rules for implementing and monitoring the various support regimes under the forthcoming CAP regime, MEPs voted to remove all SMRs (Statutory Management Requirements) relating to animal ID, meaning that sheep EID would be taken out of cross-compliance altogether.

MEPs George Lyon and Alyn Smith are emphasising that this is a first step in the process and that it is far from being a ‘done deal’ because there are further negotiations to come, but it will a welcome development for many of our members.
