Rural Watch

Nearly five years ago PC Graeme Gordon moved from North Ayrshire sub division to work as a Community Officer based in Prestwick and covering the Kyle Ward area.  He very quickly realised that as well as the many villages Kyle Ward encompasses there is also a large rural community - the farming community - who very often get forgotten about.  Graeme therefore decided to start up a line of communication within the rural community, for the rural community, with him as the co-ordinator and Rural Watch was born.

Over this time, Rural Watch has grown to 340 members Ayrshire wide and now stretching into Dumfries and Galloway.  These members receive monthly updates from Graeme on crime trends and what to look out for in an attempt to create a vigilant and security conscious community.  In return, he asks the members to inform him via e-mail of any suspicious activity on or near their property obtaining registration numbers and colour of vehicles where possible.  This also helps create intelligence on who and what is moving about the area.

Rural Watch is very popular with its members and Graeme often receive messages of thanks from them.  Graeme has started to integrate his role as Wildlife Crime Officer into Rural Watch to allow the landowners and farming members to approach him for advice on Wildlife issues and new legislation.  Rural Watch will continue to grow through "strength in numbers".   If you are within the rural community of Ayrshire or Dumfries and Galloway, wish to receive updates and assist your community, e-mail Graeme on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
