Gavin Yates in warning over civilian job cuts with formation of single police force

The loss of hundreds of civilian police jobs with the formation of Scotland's single force will see bobbies pulled off the beat and put behind desks.

That was the stark warning by the chairman of Fife's police transition committee, Councillor Gavin Yates, who fears cuts among backroom staff will have a detrimental impact on the region's streets.

He said: ''This is bad for policing and it's bad for Fife.''
