Scottish Land & Estates has responded to this Scottish Government consultation which proposes to refresh the 2004 Scottish Biodiversity Strategy. In the consultation response, the organisation welcomed the movement towards valuing the natural environment in a more comprehensive manner otherwise it will always remain outside the market and will never be fully valued. For example, we consider that the establishment of biodiversity offsetting schemes would be helpful for conserving biodiversity in Scotland.
However, Scottish Land & Estates also raised a number of potential issues surrounding the proposals in the consultation document, such as problems in delivering the ecosystem approach in the context of individual property rights.
