Visit to Denmark

To most, tilting conjures up something which was carried out in medieval times by knights in shining armour.  It may therefore be a surprise to learn that tilting, or ringriding, is still carried out along with many traditional parades and music in South Jutland in Denmark.

Recently, a delegation from the Borders visited Denmark to promote the British Horse Society Borders Festival of the Horse and to see if there would be scope to bring tilting to the Scottish Borders as part of the Festival in May 2013.

Three Scottish riders took part in the Danish tilting and the idea of a return visit by the Danes in 2013 was enthusiastically taken up.  It is hoped that some will come across before the Festival and train horses and riders before a demonstration and a competition (tbc) during the Festival itself (18 to 26 May 2013).

Now the hard work of raising funds begins to start an alliance of the Scottish Borders with the Danish Borders who both have such long traditions of involvement with The Horse.
