VAT and Energy Efficiency

Scottish Land & Estates has urged the UK Government to mount a robust defence of its existing position on reduced VAT for energy efficiency materials. A European Commission’s recent Reasoned Opinion has challenged UK’s reduced rate of VAT on the supply and installation of energy saving materials. The products are likely to be affected are all forms of insulation put in by contractors, thermostatic valves and micro-generation.

In a letter to Oliver Letwin MP, and copied to Scottish Cabinet Ministers, Scottish Land & Estates stated that  we believe that the Commission’s position runs counter to the grain of broader EU policy and would have a significant impact upon the availability of funds available for private landlords to invest in their properties.
