Members may know about Berwick Film Festival already – part of its difference is that in addition to traditional screenings, it is a promenade event with projections, installations, and screenings all around the city walls and inside unusual settings like an ice house, a lighthouse, and even prison cells. Screening over 400 individual works from 35 different countries, including 40 UK and European premieres and 12 new commissions. The Festival also gains significant press coverage, including regional radio & television, and national newspapers such as The Scotsman and Guardian Guide. The Arts Council has now guaranteed funding support for the next three years. The Festival offers an unusual but effective means of promoting local businesses and engaging them with the local community. It puts the region on the map and fulfils an important role in engagement with an exciting and very relevant art form. It’s also great fun!
