Scottish Land & Estates member Jamie Carruthers of Dormont Estate, Lockerbie, last Thursday in Glasgow won a prestigious award at the Scottish Home Awards 2012.  Competing alongside nationally renowned architects, house builders and developers, Dormont Estate won Rural Development of the Year, and picked up a Highly Commended award in the Environmental Excellence category.  Earlier in the week in London the development of 8 new houses for long term affordable rent built to the very exacting PassivHaus energy efficiency standard, won a Bronze Award in the Small Business category at the Green Apple Awards for Built Environment and Architectural Heritage.  The development secured grant under the Rural Homes for Rent Grant Scheme piloted by Scottish Government and is listed on the Scottish Government's website as an exemplar of good design (www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Built-Environment/AandP/InspirationalDesigns).
