On Friday 31st March, Richard and Lucinda Compton of Torloisk Estate, Ulva Ferry, Isle of Mull and Newby Hall hosted a gathering ofl local activists campaigning to retain their local primary school. They welcomed Ulva Estate owners Jamie and Tessa Howard and Gometra's Roc Sandford to the event and were joined by Education Minister Michael Russell MSP. Alan Reid MP and Mike Mackenzie MSP. Unfortunately Argyll Farmer and Scottish Land & Estate Member, Jamie McGrigor MSP had taken ill on the day and was unable to attend.
After a very special lunch of local shellfish, beef and pork provided by the Ulva Boathouse resaurant the 50 strong audience which included senior officers from Argyll Council and national agencies, were offered a powerful vision of Island resilience. Landowners and community are working together closely and productively to achieve a sustainable high quality future - a clear lesson to Argyll's politicians.
